Phayao

Phayao is a quiet province in Northern Thailand. Although not a well-known tourism destination, Phayao serves as something of a crossroads sharing borders with Chiang Rai, Nan, Phrae, and Lampang provinces, as well as an international border with Laos across the Mekong River

Phayao Lake

The capital city, also called Phayao, is situated on Phayao Lake. This is the 4th largest lake in Thailand, and the largest in Northern Thailand by a significant margin.

While you may be tempted to drive straight through Phayao, the lake is best enjoyed in the evenings and mornings, so it makes a lot of sense to stay here overnight. There are hotels and restaurants lake-side and their is a buzz of activity around sunset.
