Located in the hills to the south-east of Lampang city, Wat Phra That Doi Phra Chan is a stunningly beautiful temple.
The central statue is modelled after the Kamakura Daibutsu (The Great Buddha of Kamakura 鎌倉大仏) in Japan. Just completed a few years ago, the site is tranquil and makes the most of the surrounding natural beauty.
Perched atop the mountain of Doi Phra Chan, the temple’s vantage point makes for fanctastic views of the surrounding farmlands, Mae Tha village, and the city of Lampang beyond.
There is a car park at the base of the mountain, and passengers of tour vans and buses must swap to shuttle transport to drive up to the temple. Sedans and SUVs may continue up to the smaller car park at the temple.
