The Night Bazaar is a district to the east of Chiang Mai Old City, towards the Ping River. The main attraction of this area is that market stalls line the street every night, and as a hive of commercial activity there are plenty of restaurants, bars, live music venues, and people. This area is a little quiet in the morning, but that makes traffic conditions good for tour pickups.
The main street is Changklan road which runs parallel to the Mae Ping river which is a walk-able distance of about 500 meters away. Also within walking distance is Chiang Mai’s Chinatown – Warorot markets are located here and worth a visit.
Nearby Attractions
The Old City is technically within walking distance from the night bazaar, but the closest wall is just over a kilometer to walk, and then you will want to walk inside the city, and then you will need to get back to your hotel. This means that most people will take a tuk-tuk or red car and then burn up all their walking energy inside the old city itself.
Accommodation
The night bazaar district is where international hotels first appeared in Chiang Mai in the mid to late 80s and this is still the main place to find large high-rise hotels.
Chiang Mai Marriott Hotel is at the epi-center of the night bazaar. If you want to walk straight out of your hotel into the night markets, restaurants and live music venues then this is the ideal location.
Yaang Come Village is resort-style boutique hotel. It is an oasis of tranquility just a short walk (5 minutes) from the night bazaar. There are not a lot of good boutique options in the night bazaar district, so this is a welcome alternative if you do not want to stay in a large hotel.
Mae Ping River Hotels
There are a number of 5-star hotels along the Mae Ping River, and if you don’t mind a short walk there are some within striking distance of the night bazzar.
