The main southern gate of the old city is known as Chiang Mai Gate, and is the location of a wet market that comes to life with outdoor street-food vendors in the evening.
This market is not crowded with tourists (compared to Chang Phuak Gate markets for example), but you will see a constant stream of locals browsing, tasting and purchasing the freshly-cooked snacks.
Vendors and will really get cooking from 6pm with crowd favorites including Pad Thai, Roti, and Chiang Mai Sausage (Sai Oua). If in doubt, say yes and try everything!
